Weight Loss Isn’t Everything

So you’ve been working out and eating healthy for a couple weeks and you haven’t experienced the weight loss you expected.  Should you be worried?  The answer is no!  Progress in fitness is not only measured with a scale.

When you wake up in the morning, do you feel more energized?  Are you more focused at work and are daily physical tasks easier for you?  If you answered yes to any of these, your body is becoming more efficient and stronger.  How do you feel emotionally?  Do you feel more confident and happier?  Exercise is amazing in that it can affect your mind as well as your physical appearance!

Another way to measure progress is by entering your closet.  How does your clothing fit?  Are your pants looser or are you able to fit into that article of clothing that you could only dream of wearing?  Your body is changing, but it may not be noticeable to the eye just yet.  Take a measuring tape and measure your arms, stomach, and thighs.  Continue on your fitness journey, and in a couple of weeks measure the same places.  I guarantee you will see a change!

Keep working hard, put the scale away, and listen to your body!  Many aspects can affect your weight such as water, inflammation, and hormones.  You could be getting stronger and muscle takes up less space in your body, so your body weight may increase. Stay positive and determined, and keep setting realistic goals.  Above all, don’t forget exercise is supposed to be fun and enjoyable and not just about the numbers, so invite a friend to workout with you and to help keep you motivated!
