3 Ways to Stick to your Fitness Goals in 2020

2020 is here, and here are 3 ways for you to stick with your fitness goals:

1.Start by asking yourself why? What drives you?  Why do you want to get in shape? Is it so you can drop a waist size? Do you want to look better? Do you want to be able to sleep better at night? Are you aiming to relieve stress? What goals do you have in mind? Pinpoint exactly what motivates you so that you can keep coming back to that as a source of your own personal motivation.

2.Start small, build up. Come up with fitness goals that you know you are capable of achieving, and slowly build up. After you have achieved those goals, then gradually increase the intensity and frequency of your workouts. By trying to go too big too soon you might find yourself burning out too early as well as increasing your chance for injury.

3.Set up goals beyond weight loss. Often times people set physical appearance goals, and as soon as they drop a few kg, they feel they have achieved their goal, stop exercising, get right back to the couch, and binge eat ice cream all day long. Does this sound like you? Set goals that can lead to healthier habits that you can improve upon. Did I drink 1 less beer this week? Was I able to exercise 5 times this week?  Was I able to add 2 kg to my bicep curl? Could I squeeze out an extra pull up to my set? Once a habit becomes part of your daily routine, it becomes second nature just like washing your hair or brushing your teeth.

Treat your fitness goals in 2020 as a marathon, not as a sprint, and you’ll find achieving your goals that much more enjoyable. When setting goals yourself, remember to hold yourself accountable to a higher standard, but also find the right balance that fits you. It’s okay to take breaks from time to time, and just relax.
